Im Interview mit Ryan Sheridan

Ryan Sheridan wurde 1982 geboren und ist ein erfolgreicher Sänger und Songwriter aus Irland. Mit nur 16 Jahren tourte er mit “Riverdance” durch die USA. Erste Musikerfahrungen sammelte er mit seiner ersten Rockband Shiversaint. Am 06. Mai 2011 erschien Sheridans Debütalbum “The Day You Live Forever” (ausgezeichnet mit einmal Gold und einmal Platin) und tourte 2013 als Vorakt von Rea Garvey durch Deutschland, womit er dann auch den Durchbruch schaffte und sich in den deutschen Charts platzierte.

Ab dem 25. Oktober 2017 tourt Ryan Sheridan durch Deutschland und Bühnenlichter.de hatte vorab die Möglichkeit, ein Interview in englischer Sprache mit dem irischen Musiker führen zu dürfen.

What does music mean to you? Has it always been part of your life? How did all of this start for you?

Music is an outlet, a release, listening and writing my own. It all started as a hobby for me. I was sent to learn the fiddle and to learn Irish traditional music at a young age, so that has always been a part of me.

Playing guitar was just for fun, I taught myself when I was 15 or 16 and then found out I could sing a bit too. I went busking out of the need too because I quit my job, had no money and wanted to give music another shot.

How do you get your inspirations for your songs? Are there maybe musicians, living or death, that you look up to and get inspired by?

I mostly get inspired by people, stories, film and my experiences good or bad. It can also be a buildup of shit in your head that just needs to get out, so writing a song releases that.

In the spring of 2013 you were the pre-program of Rea Garvey “Cannot Stand the Silence – The Encore Tour”. How was it for you to accompany Rea Garvey on his tour in Germany?

I can say enough about Rea, he’s the Gentleman Rockstar. And an ambassador for Irish musicians. It was a real pleasure supporting him. I got to play to the German people for the first time. I remember saying I might not be back here again so I’m going to give it my all.

Which tour experience remained particularly memorable and why?

The 2013 tour. It was my first tour with Rea and most memorable and exciting.

Now you got your own Tour on the road. How does it feel now to play in large halls… it is still quite in contrast to the gigs as a street musician?

They are both different. Playing on the street is just freedom. People come and go and you learn what songs work and what don’t! You learn how to work crowd and perfect your set.

I come from a theatre background, so I am used to the stage. I want to bring more theatrics into the performance. I want to make it a show now. Something for everyone and to have people walking away on a high.

With “The Day You Live Forever” and “Here and Now” you have successfully released your first two albums in 2011 and 2015. Are there any plans for a third album yet?

Yes, there is. I am writing for it at the moment. I’m going to give everything I got for this album. I have a bit more life experience now since those albums, a lot has happened so I think it will dynamic, stories, twists. I want to capture what we do live on a record. I don’t want this record to just be songs. I want it to be a memoir.

You and Ronan will be starting on October 25, 2017 through six German Cities. Would you like to tell your German fans a bit about the tour in advance?

In 2013 we toured as a 2 piece, it was raw, acoustic and energetic. We are bringing that sound back again to Germany with this tour. We are 2 guys playing 2 acoustic instruments, but its one big sound and you got to see it to believe it! 🙂
